Move your existing email to JK Mails
Switch providers without losing a single message.
You can move from any provider that offers IMAP (Gmail/Google Workspace, Zoho, Hostinger, GoDaddy, cPanel hosting and almost all others). The idea is: set up the new place, copy the old mail, and only then point your domain at us.
Plan it
- One day before: lower the TTL of your current MX records at your DNS host to the minimum (for example 300 seconds). This makes the final switch fast.
- Add and verify your domain on JK Mails, and create the mailboxes (guide, guide). Add SPF, DKIM and DMARC now. Do not change the MX record yet.
- Choose a quiet time, for example Friday evening.
Copy the old mail
For a few mailboxes, the easiest way needs no special tools:
- In Thunderbird or Outlook, add the old account (IMAP) and the new JK Mails account side by side.
- Select the folders of the old account and drag them onto the new account. Wait for the copy to finish. Large mailboxes can take hours.
For many mailboxes or very large ones, an IMAP copy tool such as imapsync does the same thing in bulk. If you need help, open a support request and tell us how many mailboxes you have.
Switch the MX records
- Replace your MX records with the JK Mails ones from your domain page, and remove the old ones.
- For a while, new mail may still reach the old provider because of caching. Keep the old account open for at least three days and copy over anything that arrived there afterwards.
- Update the mail apps on phones and computers to the new account (settings).
Contacts and calendars
Export them from the old provider as .vcf (contacts) and .ics (calendar) files and import them in webmail.
Checklist
- Mailboxes created and tested with a message to and from an outside address.
- SPF, DKIM and DMARC show OK.
- Old MX removed, new MX added, and a test message sent from another provider arrives.
- Old provider kept for three days, then cancelled.
